Nobody plans for a boiler breakdown, and the worst part is usually not knowing what it's going to cost. So here it is in plain terms.

That covers a Gas Safe registered engineer coming to your home in Glasgow or Lanarkshire, diagnosing the fault and telling you exactly what it will cost to fix before any work starts. How boiler repair pricing works
There are three parts to any boiler repair bill:
- The call-out / diagnosis. Ours is £85 fixed. Many Glasgow firms charge £60–£120 for the first hour, then an hourly rate after that, and some add an "emergency" premium in the evening or at weekends.
- Labour to carry out the repair. We quote this as a fixed price once we know the fault. You approve it before we start.
- Parts. Genuine manufacturer parts vary enormously by brand and model. A Worcester Bosch PCB is not the same price as an Ideal one.
The thing to watch for with hourly pricing is the second visit. If a part has to be ordered, you can end up paying two lots of labour. We tell you up front whether the part is on the van or has to come in.

These are indicative all-in prices — call-out, labour and part — for the faults we see most often. Your quote depends on the boiler make and model.

- Fan — £220–£400 (boiler noisy or won't fire; fan fault code)
- Pump — £220–£400 (radiators lukewarm, boiler overheats)
- Gas valve — £250–£450 (no ignition, flame faults)
- Printed circuit board (PCB) — £300–£550 (random faults, no display, intermittent lockouts)
- Heat exchanger — £450–£900+ (leaks, kettling, poor heating — often the "replace instead" point)

Repair or replace? The rule of thumb
Use this test: if the repair costs more than half of what a new boiler would, and the boiler is over ten years old, replace it. A ten-to-fifteen-year-old boiler is also likely to be 15–25% less efficient than a modern condensing boiler, so you're paying more in gas every month on top of the repair.
The specific signs that say replace rather than repair:
- The heat exchanger has failed or is leaking
- Parts are obsolete or on long back-order (common on boilers over fifteen years old)
- It's the second or third significant repair in two years
- The boiler is a non-condensing model (typically pre-2005)
